Arizona State's Buck and Stanford's Romanczuk Named Pitcher and Player of the Week

ARIZONA STATE'S TRAVIS BUCK NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEKSTANFORD'S MARK ROMANCZUK NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA STATE sophomore outfielder Travis Buck and STANFORD sophomore left-handed pitcher Mark Romanczuk, have been named Pac-10 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the Week of March 2-8, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Buck, from Richland, Wash., had another fantastic week, hitting .500 (5-of-10) with four runs scored, three home runs and five RBI in a three-game sweep of No. 21 East Carolina. Buck hit a home run in each game of the series. He has now hit a homer in four consecutive games.

Romanczuk, from Newark, Del., pitched a season-high-tying 7.0 scoreless innings in Stanford's series opening 10-2 win at Pac-10 rival USC on March 5. On the day, he struck out seven and scattered seven hits, pushing his record to 4-1. On the season, he owns a 3.31 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 35.1 innings of work.

The Player of the Week honor is the second in a row for Buck, the third of his career and the 74th selection all-time for Arizona State. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the fourth all-time for Romanczuk and the 65th selection all-time for Stanford.
