Cardinal Rise To Program-Best No. 3 In Latest Rankings

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford University women's gymnastics team jumped two spots in the latest rankings to No. 3 after last week's impressive win at Maryland. The No. 3 ranking is the highest team ranking in program history.
The Cardinal have been arguably the hottest team in the country over the past three weeks. In that three-week span, Stanford rose from No. 9 to its current No. 3 ranking. The Cardinal's rise in the rankings began with an unbelievable performance at home on Feb. 20, which saw Stanford set the national season high score of 198.875 in a win over Cal.
The next week, Stanford took the show on the road and was near flawless, posting a 197.850-197.175 win at Oregon State on Feb. 27th. The Cardinal's score of 197.850 tied the national season-high road score and is the eighth best overall score. In back-to-back weeks, the Cardinal had accomplished an amazing feat, setting the national season high score and the top national road score.
Last weekend, the Cardinal continued to perform brilliantly, recording a 197.775-197.375 win at Maryland. The win over the Terps propelled the Cardinal into the top three in the national rankings.
The Cardinal look to continue their outstanding efforts when they head to Tucson, AZ for the Pac-10 Championship on March 20th. From there, the Cardinal look to advance to the NCAA Regional Championships on April 3rd, and will be seeking their fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Championship, which takes place on April 14-17th. Stanford advanced to its first-ever Super Six in 2002.
