Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford sophomore left-handed pitcher Mark Romanczuk (Newark, DE/St. Mark's HS) earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the period ending March 7, marking the fourth time in his career he has earned the honor. His selection also marks the 65th time a Stanford player has been chosen for the honor.
Romanczuk pitched 7.0 a season-high-tying scoreless innings in Stanford's series-opening 10-2 win at USC on Friday, March 5, striking out seven and scattering seven hits.
Romanczuk improved to 4-1 on the season and has a 3.31 ERA with team-highs in both strikeouts (36) and innings pitched (35.1). Romanczuk has won three of his last four starts with one no-decision.
Romanczuk had previously been named Pac-10 Player of the Week three times in his 2003 rookie collegiate campaign on April 1, April 21 and May 5.
The last Stanford player to win a weekly Pac-10 honor was Jonny Ash's Player of the Week selection on May 12, 2003.
