No. 19 Baseball Downs TCU, 5-2, In Round Rock

ROUND ROCK, Texas- The No. 19-ranked Arizona baseball team broke open a 1-1 game with three runs in the third inning and held on to win, 5-2, over TCU in its opening game of the Round Rock College Classic at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, on Thursday.
The win was Arizona's third straight and improved the Wildcats to 10-6-1 for the year. TCU fell to an even 8-8 with the loss.
The Wildcats took the lead for good in the third on junior John Hardy's leadoff homer to left and a pair of errors by the Horned Frogs. Sophomore Brad Boyer followed Hardy's first home run of the year with a base hit up the middle and a steal of second.
After a Moises Duran strikeout, freshman Jason Donald moved Boyer to third with a one-out single to center that TCU's Jerid Buttell misplayed for an error, allowing Boyer to score and Donald to advance to second.
Horned Frog shortstop German Duran then overthrew first baseman Chad Huffman on DJ Lewis' infield single in the next at bat to score Donald all the way from second for a three-run lead.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on sophomore Trevor Crowe's RBI ground out and tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh on a run-scoring single off the bat of senior Moises Duran.
TCU scored an unearned run on Shelby Ford's single in the third and added another on a solo home run by Huffman in the seventh.
UA starter Koley Kolberg (2-1) limited TCU to the two runs on eight hits in six innings pitched. The right-hander worked out of a pair of jams in the middle innings, stranding a runner on second in the fourth and leaving the bases loaded in the fifth. The outing earned Kolberg his second win of the year as he struck out three and walked just two.
Freshman right-hander Mark Melancon picked up his first career save with three scoreless innings of relief. Melancon struck out two and walked one.
TCU starter Eugene Espineli (1-1) was charged with loss after giving up four runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out two and walked none.
The Wildcats will return to action at the Round Rock College Classic on Friday at 3 pm CST against No. 14-ranked Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish defeated Arizona 13-5 in the opening game of last season's NCAA Regional in Fullerton, Calif.
