Bruins Shut Out North Texas at Clovis Auto Row Softball Classic

FRESNO, CA - Top-ranked UCLA improved to 23-0 on Friday afternoon at the Clovis Auto Row Classic in Fresno, CA, with a 6-0 victory over North Texas. Caitlin Benyi had two doubles and a home run in the game as Lisa Dodd struck out six for her ninth victory of the season.
UCLA manufactured its first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, as Caitlin Benyi led off the game with a double to right center, was sacrificed to third by Andrea Duran and scored on a fielders choice ground-out by Claire Sua.
Pitcher Lisa Dodd retired the first 11 batters she faced in the game before giving up a two-out double in the fourth inning for the first hit of the game.
UCLA posted an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Bruins manufactured a fifth run in the bottom of the fifth as Jodie Legaspi walked, went to third base on two wild pitches and scored on a single by Emily Zaplatosch to give the Bruins a 5-0 lead.
The bottom of the sixth inning featured a one-out rally with consecutive singles by Andrea Duran, Stephanie Ramos and Claire Sua to load the bases before a fielders choice by Jodie Legaspi gave the Bruins a 6-0 lead.
Dodd finished with six strikeouts and did not walk a batter while scattering three hits in the game. She is now 9-0 on the season.
UCLA returns to action on Saturday with games against Utah and San Diego State. The Bruins will finish Clovis Auto Row Classic action on Sunday with games against Oregon State and host Fresno State.
