Women's Soccer Announces 2003 Team Awards

March 12, 2004

CORVALLIS, Ore. - -

Oregon State women's soccer players Stacey Mescher, Courtney Carter and Lauren Wippel earned team honors at a recent team awards ceremony.

Mescher, a forward, was named OSU's Most Valuable Player after totaling nine points on three goals and three assists. Mescher did even more than her numbers might indicate, often drawing double-teams out wide and creating scoring chances for other players. She will be a junior in 2004.

Carter was the team's Most Inspirational Player. The senior forward suffered a season-ending injury in a preseason game in Costa Rica, but still served a vital role on the sidelines throughout the year.

Carter was awarded a redshirt year and will be the Beavers' leading returning scorer in 2004 with 37 points.

Wippel earned the team's Most Improved Player accolade as a freshman after seeing increases in playing time as the year went on. She started the last 10 games of the year, and saw action in 14 in OSU's backline.
