UW Golfers Climb to Fifth at Gamecock Classic

Blythewood, SC - The 11th-ranked Washington women's golf team moved up three spots on the leaderboard to stand tied for fifth after 36 holes of play at South Carolina's Lady Gamecock Classic. Washington shot 305 on Saturday at the University Club, 11 strokes better than their opening round total. The Huskies' second round total was the second best of the day. Only North Carolina, which leads the tournament at 29-over 605 was better, shooting 302. Washington is tied with Wake Forest for fifth at 45-over 621. South Carolina is second at 607 while Texas is third at 619 and Furman fourth at 620.

Washington's Sung Ea Lee shot 1-under 71 on Saturday to stand fourth overall heading into Sunday's final 18 holes. At 4-over 148, Lee is three strokes behind North Carolina's Ashley Prange. Lee carded a 77 during Friday's opening round. Paige Mackenzie also moved into the top-10 for the Huskies. She shot 1-over 73 and has a two-day total of 8-over 152.

Husky freshman Ashley Bickerton is 28th at 159 while Lindsay Morgan is 40th at 163. Amber Prange, the younger sister of the Tar Heel leader, is 49th at 166.
