Men's Golf Retains Second Round Lead at Hall of Fame Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team shot a second-round 283 (-5) to hold on to the overall lead by one stroke Saturday at the Hall of Fame Invitational in Humble, Texas.
Led by Chris Nallen's six-under 66, the Wildcats carded a five-under 283 and held on to the overall lead with a two-round total of 560 (-16). UA withstood a charge by three other teams who were eight or 10 strokes under par Saturday and retained the by a single stroke heading into Sunday's final round. Texas (561), Oklahoma State (567) and New Mexico and Oklahoma (570) round out the top five places in the 18-team field.
Twice this spring Arizona has held the second-round lead in a tournament and went on to win: Feb. 2 at the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate and Feb. 18 at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
Nallen's six-under-par 66 gave him a 36-hol total of 132 (-12) and extended his individual lead. The senior from Hackettstown, N.J., will carry a three-shot lead over a group of five players into tomorrow's final round. Seven of Nallen's 11 rounds played this spring have been in the 60s.
Freshman Henry and junior Nathan Lashley are both tied for 14th place after posting two-round totals of 142 (-2). Liaw tallied his second straight 71 (-1) Saturday, while Lashley carded a two-under 70.
The 54-hole Hall of Fame Invitational concludes Sunday at Redstone Golf Club in Humble, Texas, a par 72, 7,352-yard layout.
