No. 10 Beavers Score 197.075 To Place Third At Pac-10 Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. - The 10th-ranked Oregon State gymnastics team went 23-for-24 to score 197.075 and finish third at the Pacific-10 Championships. No. 6 Stanford won with a 197.900, with No. 1 UCLA taking second at 197.875. No. 14 Arizona and No. 22 Arizona tied for fourth (196.775), followed by No. 12 Washington (196.425) and California (195.625).

While the Beavers didn't have any individual champions, they did have several 9.90 performances. Heidi Goehring had the highest score of any OSUgymnast, scoring a career-high 9.925 to tie for seventh on beam. Goehring also had a team-best 9.90 on bars to tie for sixth. Chrissy Lamun had a 9.90 on floor, and Chelsea Plourde had a 9.90 on beam.

'We displayed the same consistency we've shown over the past seven meets, and it paid off with another great night. They fought all the way through the competition,' coach Tanya Chaplin said. 'This challenge gets us prepared for postseason competition.'

Plourde, who was named the Pacific-10 Freshman of the Year, was seventh in the all-around, scoring 39.500 to lead the Beavers. Stanford's Natalie Foley won the all-around title with a 39.800.

Stanford's Kristen Smyth was named Coach of the Year, and UCLA's Jeanette Antolin was awarded Gymnast of the Year honors.

Foley and Antolin scored 10s to win the vault title, and the duo also tied for first on bars with 9.95 marks. UCLA's Kate Richardson was perfect on floor to win the title for the second year in a row. There was a six-way tie for first on beam, with Kristen Maloney (UCLA), Molly Seaman (Wash.) My-Lan Dodd (Cal), Lindsay Wing (Stan.), Ashley Kelly (ASU), Caroline Fluhrer (Stan.) all scoring 9.95s.

OSU started off on vault, where four 9.875 performances helped lead to a 49.275 in the first rotation. Th�r�se Videan, Angela Morales, Tanya Ricioli-Hebron and Plourde all turned in the 9.875 scores, and the Beavers also counted a 9.775 from Heather Justus.

The Beavers continued their steady performance with a 49.300 on bars after having abye after vault. Goehring continued her string of 9.90-plus performances, leading OSU with a 9.90 for her fourth straight meet with a 9.90 or better. Plourde and Lamun turned in 9.875 routines, with Ricioli-Hebron adding a 9.85. OSU also counted Justus' 9.80 routine.

Goehring led the Beavers on their next event as well, with the junior scoring a career-high 9.925 on beam to lead OSU to a 49.225 on the event. Plourde had a 9.90 for her sixth score of 9.90 or higher this season. Elaine Yoder tied her season-high with a 9.875, and the Beavers got a 9.775 from Morales and a 9.75 from Lamun.

OSU closed out the night with a 49.275 on floor, led by Lamun's 9.90. The Beavers got a trio of 9.85 marks from Ricioli-Hebron, Morales and Plourde, with Videan's 9.825 rounding out the counting scores.
