No. 8 Women's Tennis Faces VCU And South Alabama Sunday-Monday

SEATTLE, Wash. - Eighth-ranked Washington women's tennis (12-2, 1-0 Pac-10) plays its final non-conference matches of the regular season when the Huskies head south to play No. 44 Virginia Commonwealth, Sunday, March 21, at 9 a.m. Pacific Time in Mobile, Alabama. The Huskies will remain in Mobile to take on No. 45 South Alabama, Monday, March 22, also at 9 a.m. PT.
Virginia Commonwealth (9-5) and South Alabama (8-7) just faced each other in Mobile on Thursday, with VCU coming out on top 4-3. VCU has two singles players ranked nationally, with Olga Borisova ranked No. 48 and Silvia Urickova ranked 97th. South Alabama does not have any nationally ranked players.
Washington is coming off a 4-3 win over No. 23 Oregon in its Pac-10 opener on March 12. After losing the doubles point, the Huskies stormed back to win four of six singles matches en route to the victory. The match saw junior All-American Dea Sumantri drop her first dual match of the year, falling in three sets at No. 1 singles to sixth-ranked Daria Panova. Sumantri is ranked 23rd nationally in singles play. Another big win for the Huskies came at No. 3 singles where senior Erin Hoe, ranked No. 78, upset No. 53 Dominika Dieskova in three sets. The win was head coach Patty McCain's 100th victory with the Huskies.
Following its matches in Alabama, Washington returns home to host No. 1 Stanford, Friday, March 26, at 12 p.m., and No. 10 California, Saturday, March 27 at 12 p.m.
