Trojans Double Up In 12-7 Win At South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. - Daniel Perales and Billy Hart had two doubles and a triple each Saturday as the USC Trojans evened its series at South Alabama with a 12-7 win at Stanky Field. The Trojans tied a school record with nine doubles in the game (set several times with the last time on April 26, 1998 vs. UCLA).
Clayton Wentworth (1-2) earned the win for USC, now 9-12 on the season, with 4 2/3 innings of relief. Wentworth allowed two runs on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts, including striking out the side in the ninth.
The Trojans held a 7-0 lead going to the bottom of the fifth. Hart capped the scoring with a bases-loaded triple and had a career-high four RBI on the afternoon.
In the bottom of the fifth, South Alabama (8-12) scored five runs to cut the deficit to two runs. The key play came on a ground ball to USC shortstop Blake Sharpe on a possible double play, but Sharpe's throw to second went over Hector Estrella's head into right field to score two runs. Wentworth entered the game with a runner on third and retired Justin Hawarah and Quendon Montgomery to end the inning.
Both teams traded two runs in the seventh before USC added three insurance runs in the eighth. Michael Moon led off the eighth with a solo shot to right, his third home run of the season and third in the last four games.
Joey Doan (1-3) took the loss for the Jaguars, allowing six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.
