OSU Blasts Kansas 7-0 In First Game Of Doubleheader

Pitcher Monica Hoffman scattered three hits en route to registering her 14th victory of the season as the No. 18 Oregon State University softball team shut out Kansas 7-0 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Sunday at the OSU Softball Complex. The game marked the home opener for the Beavers.
Hoffman, a senior from Vancouver, Wash., won her 67th game of her career. The right-hander did not allow a hit after the third inning and struck out six Jayhawks over the final four frames. For the game, Hoffman struck out eight and walked three.
The Beavers scored what proved to be the winning run in the second inning on a one-out RBI triple by true freshman Sharina Galvan. The Beavers took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth where first baseman Vanessa Iapala put the game out of reach with a two-run homer off of KU pitcher Kara Pierce with two outs. For Iapala it was her fifth home run for the season.
Offensive standouts in game one included Iapala with two RBI and two runs, Galvan was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Adrienne Alo was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Oregon State continues its four-game home stand Monday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the University of Missouri.
