China Diary No. 2
March 23, 2004
SHANGHAI, China - We won (wo men ying le bi sai). In the pouring rain and close to subzero temperatures, we pulled off a 4-0 victory against the Shanghai SVA Women's Team. Each of us got to play a half in our team's great start.
Yesterday, we endured what was supposed to be a four hour bus ride, but actually turned out to be about seven hours, to our next location. Along the way, we saw a scenic view of China. We stopped for an authenitic Chinese lunch, but opted out for a traditional American meal at KFC. We finally arrived at the city of Huai An to receive a police escort through the remainder of the city to our hotel. We were greated by eager photographers and journalists who follow us everywhere.
This morning we went on a tour of the Memorial Hall where we learned some brief Chinese history and politics. This afternoon we trained in front of what seemed like the entire city. We are all excited about tomorrow's adventure to the market and are hoping to perfect our bargaining skills.
For the time being we are feeling important and safe as we receive a police escort everywhere we go. We are now preparing for our game on Thursday against the Chinese Youth National Team.
