No. 10 Stanford Defeats BYU, 6-1

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 10 ranked Stanford University men's tennis team defeated the BYU Cougars Tuesday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinal improved their season record to 9-3 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 2-11 on the year.
The Cardinal swept the doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Sophomore All-American KC Corkery and junior Sam Warburg teamed up at the No. 1 doubles position to defeat BYU's Erik Nyman and Nima Roshan, 8-2. At the No. 2 doubles spot, senior Carter Morris and junior Phil Sheng eased by BYU's Richard Dasek and Dominik Kaufhold, 8-1, while the freshman tandem of Chris Rasmussen and James Wan slipped by the Cougars Christian Hand and Alonso Medina, 8-3.
Stanford continued its aggressive play in singles competition, claiming five of the six singles contests. Corkery cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 straight sets win over Hand in the No. 2 singles spot, while at the No. 3 spot, Sheng defeated Ivan Kokurin, 6-2, 6-3. Wan upped his season record to 17-2 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Roshan at the No. 4 spot, while Morris defeated Medina, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) at the No. 5 position and Rasmussen defeated Kaufhold, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Cardinal open up Pac-10 play this weekend when they host the No. 22 ranked Washington Huskies on Friday at 1:30 pm at the Taube Tennis Center.
