2004 PAC-10 TEAM NOTES

Arizona- The Wildcats fell out of the polls after getting swept at No. 9 Long Beach State this past week, it was their ninth straight loss to the 49ers dating back to 2001... Although Arizona is barely above .500, it's important to note that 10 of its 22 games have been against Top-15 teams, six of those games against Top-10 ranked opponents... In the 10-2 loss on Saturday, Mar. 19, SR INF Moises Duran finished the game a homerun short of hitting through the cycle, he was 3-for-4 on the day...Duran also leads the team with seven stolen bases... JR C Richard Mercado leads the team with a .383 batting average.

Arizona State- Although the Sun Devils lost their opening series to California two games to one, they still finished the week 3-2, making them the first Pac-10 team to 20 wins this season... The 20-5 start is the second best record (after 25 games) during coach Pat Murphy's tenure... Despite the pitching staff taking a beating last week (7.33 ERA in the Cal series) the bats were still hot managing a .309 batting average... For the year, ASU is hitting a league leading .320... JR SS Dustin Pedroia had antoher fantastic weekend going 10-for-20 at the plate with three more doubles. He is now hitting .451 with 15 doubles on the season.

California- Cal's series win at ASU's Packard Stadium was the first time the Bears had won a series at Arizona State since 1995... In the Bears' 20-8 win on Mar. 20, Cal scored 13 runs in the fifth inning, the most runs allowed in an inning for the Sun Devils since 1997 against UCLA... SR CF David Weiner is currently on a career-high 12-game hitting streak dating back to Mar. 3... In that time, Weiner has gone 24-of-50 (.480) with two doubles, two home runs, and 14 RBI... The Bears now play six of their next seven at home, with one game across the Bay at the University of San Francisco.

Oregon State- After finishing a two week homestand where the Beavers went 4-2, Oregon State now hits the road to play four games in five days starting this Friday at California, and finishing next Tuesday with one game at Portland... In the 5-4 loss to Utah Valley State on Mar. 21, FR RHP Jake McCormick eintered the game in the fourth inning to get five outs with five pitches. It started with a one pitch double play to end the fourth, followed by a foul ball, fly out to right, and two consecutive first-pitch ground outs in the fifth inning.

Stanford- After a 15-day finals testing hiatus, Stanford will play nine games in a 13-game span, beginning today at Saint Mary's... Through the break, Stanford has continued to stay atop of the Baseball America Top-25 poll and is ranked second in the Collegiate Baseball Top-30... The Cardinal has won seven of its' last eight heading into this week, as well.

UCLA- The Bruins have also had some time off for finals, not having seen action since Mar. 16 when they beat Loyola Marymount 7-5... The Bruins are 2-5 in their last seven games, but hold an overall mark of 13-8 with a 4-2 record on the road... UCLA starts its series at USC on Friday at 6 p.m.

USC- After going 4-4 in their longest road trip in 30 years (12 days without returning home), the Trojans are finally back in Los Angeles where they will go up against crosstown rivals Loyola Marymount and UCLA starting today and continuing Friday at Dedeaux Field... The Trojans have played a league high 11 games against ranked non-Confernece opponents going 5-6 in those match-ups. This is not including a three-game non-counting conference series with No. 1 Stanford in which they went 1-2... FR RHP Ian Kennedy leads the Pac-10 this season with 54 strikeouts.

Washington- Four games into their 12-game road trip, the Huskies finish off their fifth game in a row today with Gonzaga before traveling to Arizona State this Friday to open their Conference play... Last season UW lead the league in fielding percentage and are showing good leather again this year with a league-tying best .974 fielding percentage... SO SS Brent Lillibridge has scored 25 runs, hit five home runs, stolen seven bases and owns a .644 slugging percentage, all of which are Top-5 marks in the league.

Washington State- The Cougars are 9-3 in their last 12 games and open league play this weekend at Arizona fresh off a 2-1 series win versus Washington... After squandering a five run lead to go down 10-8 in the bottom of the ninth to the Huskies on Mar. 21, SO OF Jay Miller hit his second home run of the day to tie the game and SO LF Zach Kosturos hit a two out, two-run jack to win the game 11-10... Miller leads the team with a .397 batting average, 29 hits and is tied for the lead with 20 RBI... JR OF Kaeo Rubin is hitting at a .342 clip and has nine multiple hit games.
