Head Swimming Coach Cyndi Gallagher and Head Diving Coach Tom Stebbins have announced the latest National Letter of Signees for the spring signing period. Chiemi Yamamoto and Brittany Renfrow will join the Bruins as true freshmen in the fall.
Yamamoto attends Shuyukan High School in Fukuoka-shi, Japan. A specialist in the individual medley and breaststroke, Yamamoto competes for the Fukada Swim Club, coached by Yoshiaki Sakai. Her best times are 2:18.24 (200 IM), 4:47.15 (400 IM), 1:11.38 (100 Breast) and 2:29.69 (200 Breast). 'Chiemi will have an immediate impact on the individual medley group,' said Gallagher.
Renfrow hails from Bakersfield, CA, where she attends Centennial High School. She is a six-time Junior National Champion on springboard. At the 2000 Junior World Championships, she won the bronze medal on one-meter and placed fourth on three-meter. 'Brittany will have an immediate impact on the springboard part of our program,' said Stebbins.
'UCLA and our swimming program are very fortunate to have signed serious impact athletes with great academic pedigrees,' said Gallagher. 'These two are very welcome additions to our program and will be an important part of our continued success in the pool and in the classroom.'
Yamamoto and Renfrow will join Fall National Letter of Intent Signees Shannon Hackett, Erin Ketchum, Jillian Ochs, Heather Peng and Nicolette Teo as true freshmen at UCLA in fall 2004.
