Dana Sorensen And Lauren Lappin Pick Up Conference Weekly Honors

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford sophomore Lauren Lappin has been named the Pacific-10 Conference SoftballPlayer of the Week, while Cardinal senior Dana Sorensen has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 20-26, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Lappin, from Anaheim, Calif., hit .471 (8-for-17) last week, as the Cardinal posted a 4-1 record, including road wins over No. 3 UCLA (1-0) and No. 5 Washington (12-9, 3-2). On Apr. 23, Lappin knocked in the winning run in Stanford's 1- 0 win over host UCLA. A day later, she was 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored two runs as Stanford topped Washington in Seattle, 12-9. For the week, Lappin hit three doubles, scored three runs and tallied six RBI. In addition, Lappin was perfect in the field, with 10 putouts and 10 assists.
Sorensen, from San Diego, Calif., picked up two Pac-10 wins last week over Top-5 opponents on the road. Sorensen was the winning pitcher in the Cardinal's 1-0 win over No. 3 UCLA on Apr. 23 and its 3-2 win over No. 5 Washington on Apr. 25. She threw a four-hit shutout of the Bruins with eight strikeouts. Against the Huskies, she pitched eight innings, allowed two runs on only three hits. She posted 14 strikeouts, including eight consecutive. Sorensen retired the first 10 batters of the game as Stanford defeated Washington, 3-2, in extra-innings. She also picked up her team-leading fifth save of the season in the Cardinal's 12-9 win over Washington on Apr. 25. Sorensen went 2-1 for the week in fourappearances, pitching 21.1 innings with 26 strikeouts while holding opponent batters to a .173 average at the plate.
This is the first weekly honor for Lappin, while it is Sorensen's sixth, and her second this season. The awards are the 23rd and 24th in Stanford's history.
