Bruins and Trojans Meet in Pivotal Conference Series at Jackie Robinson Stadium:
UCLA (23-18, 6-6) will host crosstown rival USC (20-22, 6-6) this weekend for a three-game Pac-10 series. The teams met earlier this season with the Trojans winning two games at Dedeaux Field. Currently, the teams are tied for third place in the conference standings, along with Oregon State.
This series will conclude the six-game season series which also included the nonconference series at USC. The winner of the season series will be awarded with five points in the Lexus Gauntlet points. If the series finishes at 3-3, each school will receive 2.5 points in the standings. Currently, USC leads UCLA by a 55-35 margin.
Friday and Sunday's games will be broadcast live by KVMD-TV with Neil Evans and Jay Johnstone. KVMD is available in selected areas of California depending on your cable service provider and is also available on Dish Network and Direct TV. Each game of the series can be heard on www.uclabruins.com with Dave Marcus and Chris Pritchett calling the action.
UCLA Drops Pitcher's Duel, 2-1 at Long Beach State:
Long Beach State scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to take a 2-1 win over the Bruins at Blair Field on Tuesday night.
Bruin starter David Johnson was stellar in his fifth start of the season. He held the 49ers scoreless in his seven inning outing and scattered four hits.
Ryan McCarthy continued to swing a hot bat as he went 3-for-4 with the night's only Bruin RBI.
Bruins Claim Pac-10 Series Win at California:
UCLA defeated California on Friday and Saturday to take a 2-1 series win at Berkeley.
Casey Janssen improved to 7-2 on the season in UCLA's 7-2 win on Friday afternoon. A three-run home run from Brandon Averill and a two-run shot from Chris Denove spearheaded the Bruin offense in the victory.
On Saturday, UCLA came back to score six runs in the sixth inning to take a 8-5 lead en route to a 10-7 victory. Denove homered for the second straight day with a two-run roundtripper in the seventh frame to seal the Bruin win.
UCLA dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker on Sunday as the Golden Bears scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to salvage the series. Despite suffering the loss, Wes Whisler had a solid outing, scattering six hits and three runs over six innings of work.
