Men's Golf Finishes 10th At Pac-10 Championships

Tucson, Ariz. - The Stanford men's golf team shot a final round of 392 today at the 2004 Pac-10 Men's Golf Championships at The Galler at Dove Mountain. The Cardinal shot a 1562 for the tournament to finish 10th overall. Arizona took top honors, firing a 1450 over four rounds. Arizona State was second (1455), followed by UCLA (1470), Washington (1476) and Southern California (1479).
Wildcat Henry Liaw's efforts not only spurred the team on to victory, but enabled him tocapture individual medalist honors. His final-round 68, one of just twounder-par rounds on the day, gave him a four-round total of 279 (-9) and afour-stroke victory over Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares and ChezReavie.
The Cardinal was led by Kevin Blue, who tied for 37th with a 306 (74-74-82-76). Teammate Kyle Gentry tied for 42nd after carding a 309 (75-74-78-82) while senior Blake Mastalir tied for 51st (81-77-79-78--315). Freshman Brandon Lawson placed 54th with a four-round score of 318 (74-81-84-79) and fellow frosh Zack Miller carded a 319 (79-79-79-82) to finish 55th. Scott MacDonald was 58th (83-82-84-77--326).
The Gallery certainly proved itself championship caliber as well, yieldingjust seven totals of par or better in the field of 60 for the tournament.All told, there were only nine sub-par scores tallied over the final tworounds of this championship.
The 72-hole Pac-10 Championships were contested at The Gallery at DoveMountain, a par 72, 7,435-yard layout. The conference championship wasdetermined by teams of six players with the low five scores for each roundcounting toward the team total.
