May 1, 2004
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The Golden Bears bounced back from a tough loss to Washington to win their 15th straight Schwabacher Cup on Saturday. Cal defeated Stanford in all three races today and now leads the all-time series between the two schools 54-18.
The varsity eight won its race in convincing fashion, finishing nine seconds ahead of the visiting Cardinal. The Bears finish the regular season with a 4-1 record, including winning their sixth straight Copley Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic.
The second varsity eight had a very close race with a fast Stanford boat. In the end, the Bears finished just over two seconds ahead of the Cardinal.
Cal's freshman eight continues to impress, winning its race by eight seconds. The freshman boat is the only men's boat to remain undefeated thus far in the season.
The Bears will head back to practice to prepare for the upcoming Pac-10 Championship held on May 16 in Rancho Cordova. The second varsity eight and freshman eight will try to defend their titles, while the varsity eight will look to regain the title that was once theirs.
