Softball Falls To Oregon
May 1, 2004
EUGENE, Ore.- A seven-run second inning propelled the 11th-ranked Oregon softball team to the eventual 10-1 victory over seventh-ranked Washington this afternoon at Howe Field.
Washington threatened in the second inning when Kathy Fiske singled to left field and Amanda Oleson walked. Oregon's ace Ani Nyhus worked her way out of the jam with a pop-up in foul territory and her fifth strikeout of the game.
The Huskies struggled through the second inning allowing seven runs on five hits and Oregon added two more runs in the third to make the score 9-0.
Washington got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning when Dena Tyson hit a solo home run over the left field wall.
With the Ducks leading 9-1 heading into the fifth inning, the Huskies battled to extend the game as Jeffries singled up the middle and scored on Aimee Minor triple making the score 9-2.
Unfortunately the Ducks posted the game-ending run in the bottom half of the fifth with an RBI single by Jenn Poore for the final score of 10-2 in five innings.
The Huskies return to action Sunday when they round out the Oregon series with a game at 1 p.m. at Howe Field.
