July 12, 2004
BERKELEY, Calif. - Justin Forsett, who scored 63 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 5,000 yards during the past two seasons in propelling Grace Prep Academy to back-to-back Texas state high school championships, has signed a football national letter-of-intent with the University of California, Golden Bear Head Coach Jeff Tedford announced today.
Forsett, a member of the Dallas Morning News' Area Top 100 Team, darted for 2,560 yards and 38 TDs last fall in leading Grace Prep to a 12-1 record. The 5-8, 180-pound running back earned first team all-state honors in the private school division, also earned the Most Valuable Player award for Class 4A in Texas.
A native of Lakeland, Fla., Forsett moved to Arlington, Texas after his sophomore year in high school. Also a track and basketball star at Grace Prep, the elusive back has been clocked at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Forsett is scheduled to enroll at Cal this fall and will report to football training camp Aug. 10 in Berkeley.
