Chandler and Silver Swim in U.S. Olympic Trials

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Sophomore All-American Ashley Chandler finished 34th in the 800-meter freestyle preliminary at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials this morning. In 2004, Chandler set a new school record at the NCAA Championships, seizing fourth in the 400-meter free. She also finished fourth in the 200-meter free and was a member of the NCAA champion 800-meter free relay team.

Sophomore Helen Silver finished 38th in the women's 200-meter backstroke preliminaries. The All-American touched the all in 2:21.28.

Gary Hall Jr. and Sabir Muhammad, who trained this spring with the men's program in Berkeley, advanced to the men's semi-final in the 100-meter freestyle today at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Hall, the former gold-medalist and American record holder (21.76) in the event, finished first in the preliminary at 22.19.
