Thompson Advances to One Meter Semi-final at Senior Nationals
July 22, 2004
In today's one meter preliminary, Paige Thompson advanced to the semi-final with a six place finish after the preliminary. Paige accumulated 212.80 points in her five dive list, to advance to semi-final A. The top twelve athletes advance to one of two semi-finals; the even placing finishers diving in semi-final A and with the odd placing finishers diving in semi B. The top three from each semi-final advance into tonight's final. In her first one meter semi-final, Paige finished in fourth place (218.49) just six points out of qualifying for the final. With her second top-twelve finish in two days, Paige is now pre-qualified into next summer's Senior National Championships in both the one meter and three meter springboard events.
'I am extremely proud of Paige. She has really turned a corner competitively. I believe that Paige will just keep building on all of the positive experiences of which she has been part this week. I am looking forward to seeing her battle with the best in the country this Saturday,' Head Coach Tom Stebbins said.
Paige will compete against seven other qualifiers for the Women's Three Meter Championship on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Mission Viejo pool. In action tomorrow, Senior Janine Strack will represent the Bruins in the Women's Ten Meter Platform event on Friday morning. The event is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
