July 26, 2004
On Saturday afternoon, Junior Paige Thompson placed sixth in the Women's Three Meter event at the US Senior National Championship held in Mission Viejo, CA. Paige scored a career-high 460.35 points in the final of the event. After qualifying sixth in the event, Paige needed to be better in her final list to keep pace with the competition. Her five optional dive total of 276 points is also a personal-best.
'I am very pleased with Paige and her performance throughout the week. Paige has really taken some enormous steps in terms of her athletic development during the past year. I am very excited to see just how high she can go within this sport,' Head Coach Tom Stebbins commented. 'I couldn't be happier for all of my athletes and the great things they have accomplished this year.'
Later in the day, Senior Co-Captain Janine Strack and Junior Amanda Blong placed sixth in the Women's Three Meter Synchronized Diving contest. Their total of 217.56 was just one point off of their qualifying score from the preliminary rounds. This was the first competition for the duo in this event. 'They both did a great job of competing this week. I am very proud of each of them.'
With the Nationals concluded, the team will now break until the pre-season begins in mid-September.
