Valley Veteran Broadcaster Jeff Munn Hired as the Women's Hoops Radio Play-By-Play Voice

TEMPE, Ariz. - Valley veteran broadcaster Jeff Munn has been hired as the radio play-by-play voice of Arizona State women's basketball, the Sun Devil Sports Network announced today.'Jeff Munn is a talented and experienced broadcaster who has earned a great reputation in the Valley. We couldn't be more excited to have Jeff join the Sun Devil team as our radio voice,' said ninth-year Arizona State head coach Charli Turner Thorne.Munn serves as a fill-in radio play-by-play announcer for the Arizona Diamondbacks, currently in his fourth season in that role, while also serving as the club's public address announcer since the team's 1998 debut. Munn has also been the stadium voice of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl for 13 years and spent 12 seasons as the arena voice of the NBA's Phoenix Suns.In 1996, Munn was selected as one of four announcers for the basketball competition at the Atlanta Summer Olympics and handled the announcing duties for the Men's Gold Medal Game. He has also served as an announcer for the 1993 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the 1995 NBA All-Star Game, and the 2000 WNBA All-Star Game.Munn has been an announcer for 28 years, starting as a senior at Phoenix Carl Hayden High School. A year later, he took on the football and men's basketball announcing at Phoenix College. In 1980, he was hired by ASU to be the baseball stadium announcer and served in that capacity for 12 seasons. In addition to baseball, Munn announced women's volleyball, wrestling, gymnastics, women's basketball (1982-87), softball and track and field for the Sun Devils. He also served as men's basketball announcer for four seasons.Munn, 46, attended Arizona State University, majoring in history. He resides in Tempe with his wife, Laurie, and their two children, Patrick (8) and Hayley (5).All 30 of ASU's games - home and away - will be broadcast on the Sun Devil Sports Network and available on ASU's official web site at www.thesundevils.com.Arizona State opens the 2004-05 season Nov. 11-12 at the Women's Sports Foundation Classic in Baton Rouge, La. The Sun Devils play a pair of exhibition games at Wells Fargo Arena on Nov. 3 and 8 and open the home regular-season schedule with San Diego on Nov. 20.
