USC Picked No. 1 In AVCA Preseason Poll

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The two-time defending national champion USC women's volleyball team earned the top ranking in the 2004 AVCA USA Today/CSTV Preseason Coaches Poll released today.The Women of Troy, who are aiming for a third-consecutive title this season, picked up 56 of 65 first-place votes. Having gone undefeated in 2003, the Trojans have not lost a match since Nov. 2, 2002. The team returns eight letterwinners, including two-time first team All-American Emily Adams, All-American Bibiana Candelas and two-time NCAA Championship MVP Keao Burdine.The Pacific-10 Conference nabbed five of the top 10 spots and six overall places in the preseason poll. The Big Ten placed four teams in the preseason poll, while the Big 12 and West Coast Conference each produced three teams in the poll. A total of 50 schools were listed on at least two ballots cast by the AVCA panel of coaches, in addition to four schools mentioned on just one ballot.USC opens the 2004 season at the NACWAA Volleyball Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., Aug. 27-28.AVCA USA Today/CSTV Preseason Coaches Poll 1.
