Former Beaver Great Jim Wilson Joins Broadcast Crew

Corvallis, Ore. - Former two-sport athlete and Oregon State University Sports Hall of Fame member Jim Wilson has been named the analyst for the Beaver Sports Radio Football Network, Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis announced Monday. Wilson replaces 15-year veteran Bob Grim, who resigned last month to pursue other interests.Wilson is a 1993 graduate of Oregon State with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science, and he earned a master's in teaching from OSU in '95. He lettered in baseball from 1980-82 and in football for the 1980 and `81 seasons. He started 10 games in '81 and one in '80 at offensive guard.'I'm truly excited to work in this role,' Wilson said. 'I have a passion for football. This job really has three attractions for me - it's football; it's Oregon State; and it's an opportunity to work with Mike Parker. I have known Mike for many years and I have always respected his work in the broadcast booth.'Wilson was inducted into the Oregon State Sports Hall of Fame in September of last year. The Corvallis native was a standout baseball player at OSU, and he still holds the school season records for home runs (21) and for slugging percentage (.829). He was named the Pacific-10 Conference's Northern Division Most Valuable Player and third team All-American after leading the Beavers to the league title in 1982. He was drafted after his junior season in the second round by the Cleveland Indians, and later reached the Major League level with the Indians and Seattle Mariners. He finished his 13-year professional career in Japan. 'I've known Jim for a long time and I have always been impressed by his intelligence, his wit and his love for his alma mater,' Beaver play-by-play announcer Mike Parker said. 'Beaver Nation will appreciate these qualities right from the start. I'm thrilled about the opportunity to work next to Jim.' Wilson has spent the last eight years as a physical education teacher, head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Fort Vancouver High School in Washington. He has been the football program's offensive coordinator the last three seasons.'We are very excited at having an Oregon State Hall of Fame inductee join our radio crew,' Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis said. 'Jim Wilson is a familiar name to the Beaver family and we look forward to his insight on the broadcasts.'Wilson was a three-sport athlete at Corvallis' Crescent Valley High School, earning letters in football, basketball and baseball. He was a first team all-state lineman as a senior and was selected to play in the Shrine Game. His father, Robert Wilson, is a retired engineering professor at OSU and a member of the school's engineering Hall of Fame. His brother Bob is a member of OSU's football gameday stat crew. The Beaver Sports Radio Network includes 27 stations and can be heard worldwide via osubeavers.com.
