UCLA Picked To Win Pac-10 Women's Soccer Title

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Defending Conference champion UCLA has been voted as the favorite to win this year's Pac-10 women's soccer title, according to the Pac-10 preseason coaches' poll. The Bruins received seven of 10 first-place votes as STANFORD (2) and ARIZONA STATE (1) received the remaining first-place votes.Just five points seperate the fourth- through sixth-place teams as WASHINGTON tabbed fourth with 55 points, sliding by USC (52 pts.) and CALIFORNIA (50 pts.).Last year UCLA advanced to the NCAA College Cup, losing 3-0 in the semifinals to eventual champion North Carolina. The Bruins compiled a league best 20-2-3 overall record, and went 8-0-1 against Conference foes. Arizona State finished second in the Conference, ending its season with a 1-0 loss to Santa Clara in the third round of the NCAA Championship.Five Pac-10 teams competed in the NCAA women's soccer championship last season: UCLA, Arizona State, Stanford, USC, and Washington.Following are the results of the preseason coaches' poll; coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams (points 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1, first place votes are in parentheses):
