Matt Leinart Throws 4 TD Passes In USC's Final Intrasquad Scrimmage

Quarterback Matt Leinart threw 4 touchdown passes on Thursday (Aug. 19) evening in the Coliseum in USC's final intrasquad football scrimmage of fall camp.Leinart's scores went to tailbacks LenDale White (9 yards) and Desmond Reed (17 yards) and wide receivers Dwayne Jarrett (23 yards) and Fred Davis (45 yards). He completed 82.7% of his passes (19-of-23) for 238 yards, but threw an interception.Jarrett had 5 catches overall for 80 yards, while wide receiver Chris McFoy added 6 grabs for 45 yards. White ran for 81 yards on 6 carries.Linebacker Matt Grootegoed had a team-high 4 tackles.The scrimmage capped USC's simulated game day experience, in which the Trojans spent the night at a local hotel, had pre-game meetings and meals there, then bused to the Coliseum, and went through the normal pre-game warmup before conducting the 72-play scrimmage in which the first team offense went against the scout team defense and the first team defense faced the scout team offense.Defending national champion and top-ranked USC opens its 2004 season on Aug. 28 against Virginia Tech in the Black Coaches Association Football Classic in Landover, Md.
