Cal Defeats USF 2-0 in Exhibition Match

San Francisco, CA - In front of a full crowd at Negoesco Field, California defeated University of San Francisco 2-0 in an exhibition Friday at USF.Senior forward and preseason second team All American Carl Acosta picked up right where he left off last season. Acosta pounced on a stray pass in USF's backfield before calmly slotting in the game-winning goal in the 16th minute.The first half ended with the score at 1-0, Cal managing five shots to USF's six.Junior Calen Carr, back after redshirting last season, broke free of the USF defense in the 61st minute, before being dragged down in the box. Sophomore defender Andrew Felder stepped up and converted the penalty kick, putting Cal ahead 2-0.USF's best opportunity of the night came in the 66th minute, but the 18-yard shot was turned away by the crossbar.Cal opens the regular season with a home match against Sacramento State on Wednesday Sept. 1, 2 p.m. at Edwards Stadium.
