Cal Tabbed No. 15 in Golf World's Prseason Coaches' Poll

BERKELEY, Calif. - Coming off a program-best finish of fourth at the 2004 NCAA Championships, the California women's golf team is ranked No. 15 in Golf World's annual College Preview edition.UCLA, the defending NCAA champion, has been tabbed No. 1 in the preseason coaches' poll with 261 points, just ahead of Duke (359). The Golden Bears are 15th with 164 points.Cal juniors Sophia Sheridan and Sofie Andersson - 2004 honorable mention All-America picks -- are listed by the national magazine as one of the Top 50 Players to Watch this season. Andersson tied for sixth at the 2004 NCAA meet, while Sheridan won the Western Amateur over the summer.The Bears look to garner their fifth-consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships in 2004-05, but they will have to fill the shoes of Sarah Huarte, who won the 2004 national title and advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur. Huarte completed her eligibility in the spring and will finish her degree this semester.
