Volleyball Sweeps Trinity Western In Exhibition Match

SEATTLE-- The seventh-ranked Washington volleyball cruised to a 3-0 (30-18, 30-13, 30-17) victory over Trinity Western this evening in an exhibition match. The Huskies out-hit the Spartans .269 to -.152, while holding a 41-16 advantage in kills.'We played okay tonight,' said head coach Jim McLaughlin. 'At times we played really well and controlled the game but we didn't play that well start to finish. I liked the way we served and passed but our offense wasn't consistent. We are going to need to work on our offensive rhythm at that will take some time.'Sanja played well tonight and Brie finished strong after a slow start. Candace Lee played well and Kait did a good job for us coming off the bench.'Brie Hagerty and Sanja Tomasevic carried the UW offense, tallying over half of Washington's kills. Hagerty led all players with 12 kills, while Tomasevic tallied 11 kills and made just one error in 21 attempts to lead all players with a .476 hitting percentage.Also contributing to the Husky attack was veteran middle blocker Darla Myhre and newcomer Christal Morrison. Myhre logged six kills and four blocks, while Morrison added six kills.Washington's serve kept Trinity Western on its heals as the Spartans made nine serve receive errors. UW notched six aces on the night including a pair of aces from Tomasevic and senior Kaitlin Leck who entered the match in the third set.Candace Lee anchored Washington's defense with 13 digs and Danka Danicic added seven in the winning effort.The Huskies open the regular season this weekend when they take part in the Northern Illinois Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational. Washington opens tournament play on Friday, Sept. 3 with a match against Butler (5 p.m.), before pulling double-duty on Sept. 4 with matches against Wisconsin-Milwaukee (10 a.m.) and host NIU (5 p.m.).
