Eylander Named Men's Soccer Pac-10 Player of the Week

Sept. 7, 2004

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Washington junior goalkeeper Chris Eylander has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 31-Sept. 6, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Eylander, from Sumner, Wash., posted two shutouts and allowed just one goal in the Huskies' three season-opening road games last week. Two of the three games were played against teams ranked in the Top-5 by Soccer America. The lone goal given up by Eylander was to second-ranked St. John's.

Eylander posted four saves and earned a shutout in Washington's 3-0 win over Gonzaga on Sept. 1. He also made four saves in a 1-0 shutout of No. 5 Connecticut on Sept. 4, thwarting 12 shots from the UConn Huskies. On Sept. 6, Eylander staved off 13 shots from No. 2 St. John's, allowing just one goal. Eylander also made four saves in the Huskies' 1-0 loss to the Red Storm, their first loss of the year.

The Huskies' performance earned them the No. 18-ranking in this week's NSCAA/Adidas Coaches' poll, and slotted them at No. 20 in the Soccer America poll.

This is Eylander's first weekly honor, and the 10th all-time player of the week honor for the Huskies.
