No. 6 Volleyball Defeats Arkansas 3-0

WICHITA, Kan.-- The No. 6 Washington volleyball team (5-0) handed Arkansas (1-4) a 3-0 (30-20, 30-25, 30-22) loss this evening to improve to 2-0 at the Green Mill Restaurant Classic. The Huskies out-hit the Lady'Backs .294 to .099 and held statistical advantages in kills (47-37) and digs (50-40).
Three Washington players recorded kills in double-digits, led by freshman Christal Morrison with 14 kills on 30 swings. Sanja Tomasevic tallied 11 kills and Brie Hagerty added 10 in the winning effort.
The Huskies out-hit Arkansas .385 to .129 in game one and never trailed after the Lady'Backs took the early 2-1 lead. Washington quickly built a 10 point lead at 17-7 and cruised to the 30-20 victory with six kills by Morrison and five by Darla Myhre.
Washington led all of game two, leading by as many as eight points at the 23-15 mark. Arkansas pulled to within two points at 26-24, aided by three UA aces but two Lady'Back errors and a Tomasevic kill put the game away.
The Huskies burst out of the gates in game three, taking a 15 point lead at 22-7. Arkansas battled back to narrow Washington's lead to six at 24-18 with six UA kills and four UW errors. A kill by Hagerty and three by Tomasevic closed out the match with a 30-22 Washington victory.
Husky setter Courtney Thompson dished 44 assists in the win and added seven digs. Candace Lee led the team with 12 digs, while Danka Danicic had 11 and Morrison chipped in seven.
Washington rounds out tournament action Saturday with a match against Michigan State at 5 p.m.
