Arizona's Jennifer Abernathy Named Women's Volleyball Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona outside hitter Jennifer Abernathy has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 7-12, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Abernathy, a junior from Antioch, Calif., was named MVP of the Wildcat Classic after leading No. 19 Arizona to upsets of two higher-ranked teams en route to winning the tournament championship. It was the first time since the 2001 season that the Wildcats recorded back-to-back wins over ranked opponents.
In Arizona's sweep of No. 9 Pepperdine, Abernathy finished with 21 kills on 42 attempts with only five errors for a .381 hitting percentage. In the championship match against No. 18 Louisville, she recorded her third double-double of the season with 19 kills and 12 digs. In three matches overall, Abernathy collected 50 kills (5.00 kpg) with 22 errors on 111 attempts, while notching 25 digs (2.50 dpg). For the weekend, she collected a total of 53.5 points (5.35 ppg).
This is the second weekly honor for Abernathy, and Arizona's 21st Pac-10 Player of the Week all-time.
