Slovic and Palmanshofer Appear In Preseason Rankings
Sept. 13, 2004
The preseason edition of the ITA individual rankings were released on September 10, and featured two Husky singles players and one doubles team. Sophomore Alex Slovic checks in at a career high No. 14 ranking while senior Christoph Palmanshofer earned a No. 88 rank. Slovic and sophomore Daniel Chu are the 30th-ranked doubles team. The rankings were created from a vote by the ITA National Ranking Committee.
Slovic finished last season at No. 27 and was as high as No. 25. The Yugoslavian native was named the ITA Rookie of the Year winner and was the highest-ranked freshman at the end of the season. Slovic finished the season with a 27-8 singles record and led the Huskies with 23 doubles wins. He advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships in May.
Palmanshofer earned his second consecutive preseason ranking after starting last year at No. 61. The senior was 17-12 in singles last year and finished the year unranked.
Washington's top singles player, Alex Vlaski, will skip the fall season of his senior campaign to continue playing professional tournaments in order to raise his world ranking. Due to this decision Vlaski is unranked for the fall.
The Huskies kick off the 2004-05 season at the ITA All-American Championships on October 1 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
