Sept. 13, 2004
Husky senior All-American Dea Sumantri will enter the fall tennis season as the 11th-ranked player in the nation, as the Preseason ITA Rankings were announced Friday, September 10. Sumantri, UW's top returning player, finished last season ranked No. 17, which was her previous career high. Sumantri and junior Dinka Hadzic are also the 14th-ranked doubles team. The rankings were determined by a vote of the ITA National Ranking Committee.
Sumantri, a native of Jakarta, Indonesia, finished last season with a 28-10 singles record, splitting time at No. 1 and 2 singles with departed senior Claire Carter. She reached the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship and made the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship teaming with Carter. Carter and Sumantri finished as the No. 7 doubles team, the highest ever ranking for a Husky pair. Sumantri and Hadzic have never teamed together.
Washington opens the 2004-05 season at the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles, California on October 1.
