ANDREW KARTUNEN NAMED PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

STANFORD sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 7-13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced.

Kartunen, from San Juan Capistrano, Calif., was perfect in goal over the weekend, posting two shutouts as the Cardinal defeated San Jose State and San Diego to claim a share of the adidas Cal Legacy Classic title. In 180 minutes in net he made five saves, earning Co-MVP honors for the tournament.

Kartunen made a pair of saves and cleared a ball off the goal line as Stanford registered a 1-0 victory over the Spartans on Sept. 10. He then made three saves in the game against San Diego on Sept. 12, en route to posting his fourth straight shutout to begin the 2004 campaign. In four starts this season, Kartunen has made 16 saves and has not surrendered a goal, posting a 3-0-1 record.
