California Excels in Second Round of Napa Valley Classic

Napa, Calif. - NAPA, Calif. - California improved on day two at the Napa Valley Tennis Classic, going 4-4 in singles matches while capturing one doubles victory. The Golden Bears have been competing in one of the nation's premier tournaments against University of Georiga, Texas A&M University and University of Illinois.
Freshamn Ken Nakahara recorded his first career collegiate win, dominating Georgia's Trevor Wilson, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Dean Wallace notched his first win of the season, defeating Texas A&M's Zack Malmgren, 6-3, 6-4. Cal sophomores John Pettit and Tyler Browne both outlasted their opponents in tie-breakers. Pettit defeated Texas A&M's Matt Bain, 6-2, 7-6 (7). Browne overcame Illinois' Evan Zader, 6-1, 7-6 (2). Freshman Vaclav Burger, who tallied his first career win on Friday, dropped a close match to Illinois' Brandon Davis, 6-7 (7-5), 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles action, the Cal tandem of Nakahara and Berger recorded Cal's first doubles win of the tournament.
Tournament play concludes tomorrow, Sunday, at 2 p.m.
