No. 13 Women's Volleyball Sweeps Northwestern 3-0

Evanston, Ill. - Senior outside hitter Ogonna Nnamani tallied a match-leading 18 kills while hitting at the .548 clip as the 13th-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team swept host-Northwestern, 3-0, this evening to win the Wildcat Classic in Evanston, Ill. Game scores were 30-17, 30-23, 30-18. The Cardinal improve to 7-2 on the year while the Wildcats fall to 5-5.
Stanford opened up a 16-11 lead in game one on a solo block by Kristin Richards. The Cardinal extended the lead to 21-12 on a kill by setter Bryn Kehoe that forced a Wildcat timeout. SU reached game point on a kill by Richards at 29-16 and closed out the game 30-17 on a block by Michelle Mellard and Jennifer Hucke.
The Cardinal opened a 13-9 lead in game two on a kill by Ogonna Nnamani. NU would take a timeout trailing 15-9 after two consecutive Wildcat hitting errors. Stanford went up 21-13 on a Jennifer Hucke kill. Hucke gave the Cardinal game point on a cross court kill at 29-22. Franci Girard posted a kill to close out game two 30-23.
Stanford ran out to a 13-6 lead on a kill by Ogonna Nnamani as NU took a timeout to try to slow down the Cardinal. SU continued to roll reaching 20-10 on a kill by Lizzie Suiter. A Wildcat hitting error gave the Cardinal game and match point leading 29-17. Njideka Nnamani recorded her second kill of the match to close out the game 30-18.
Kristin Richards added nine kills and a match-leading 10 digs to the Cardinal effort. Jennifer Hucke had eight kills and a match-high six blocks while Lizzie Suiter added five kills and three blocks.
Ogonna Nnamani was named MVP for her efforts over the weekend. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Richards and Hucke.
Stanford opens conference play next weekend against Arizona and Arizona State in Burnham Pavilion.
