WSU Women's Cross Country Team Finishes 10th at Sundodger

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Washington State women's cross country team finished 10th at the Sundodger Invitational held Saturday at Lincoln Park. Head Coach Jason Drake uses meet as proving grounds for his young squads.
The Cougar women were led by sophomores Katie Troy and Karen Demartini who finished in 50th and 66th respectively. Troy ran the 6,000m course in a time of 22 minutes and 49 seconds while Demartini posted a time of 23:15.69.
WSU sophomore Grace Coulter placed 77th followed by freshmen Eileen Morley in 84th place, senior Julia Corbett in 87th place and freshman Michelle DeCourcey in 114th place. Running unattached, sophomore Kayle Peterson finished 38th, freshman Meghan Leonard finished 49th and junior Hailey Young finished 100th.
'We definitely needed a team to go score and see how they shaped up against other schools on the west side,' said Jason Drake. 'We need to get them some experience because these are the people that are really going to help us out next year and down the road.'
Senior Jon Manthey was the sole scoring representative of the men's team placing 86th and improving on his last year's 118th place finish by a full minute with a time of 26:53.83. Five Washington State men competed unattached led by freshman Woody Favinger's 38th place finish. Sophomore Leif Kohler finished 39th, senior Justin Ireland finished 40th and freshmen C.J. Godfrey and Gary Walsh finished 88th and 94th respectively.
Next up for the Cougars is the highly regarded Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., September 25.
