Stahle Tied for First, ASU Third After Two Rounds at the NCAA Fall Preview

Sept. 21, 2004

SUNRIVER, Ore. - Led by freshman Louise Stahle who is tied for first individually, the Arizona State women's golf team stands in third place heading into the final round at the Mercedes-Benz of Bend Fall Preview, being held Monday-Wednesday at the par 71, 6,300-yard Meadows Golf Course.

Stahle is tied for first in the tournament with Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin with a two-round total of eight-under par 134. The pair holds a four-stroke lead over Duke's Brittany Laing (64-74=138).

Stahle carded a five-under 66 on Tuesday and has a chance to become the first Sun Devil to win her collegiate debut since All-American Miriam Nagl won the Fall Preview in 1999. She could also become the first Sun Devil to capture a tournament title since All-American Jimin Kang won the 2002 Pac-10 individual championship.

The Sun Devils carded a three-over 287 on Tuesday to climb three spots to third with a two-day total of 579 (292-287). Arizona State is just two strokes out of the tournament lead, held by Duke and Washington with two-round totals of 577. The Sun Devils have not won a tournament since clinching the title at the 2000 San Jose State Spartan Invitational.

For the Sun Devils, junior Alissa Kuczka is tied for 19th after carding a one-over 72 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 145, while sophomore Charmaine Erasmus is in a tie for 30th at 148 (75-73). Sophomore Tiffany Tavee stands in a tie for 74th heading into the final round (78-76=154), while freshman Brooke Todare is in 101st place (76-87=163).

Wednesday's final round begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Pacific. Live scoring for the 2004 Fall Preview is available at www.golfstat.com, while a recap will also be available at the conclusion of the tournament on ASU's official web site at www.thesundevils.com.
