No. 3 Cal Ties for 12th at the Fall Preview

SUNRIVER, Ore. - No. 3 California struggled in the third round of the Mercedez-Benz of Bend Fall Preview and finished the 21-team tournament in 12th place. The Golden Bears carded a 20-over 304 Wednesday to post a 54-hole score of 894 in the 2004-05 season opener.

No. 1 Duke posted a three-day score of 858 to hold off Washington by six shots (864). Oklahoma State was third at 866, followed by Arizona State (868) and Auburn (869).

Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin won the individual title by one stroke at minus-seven 206. Arizona State's Louise Stahle was second at 207, while Duke's Brittany Lang was third at 209.

Junior Sofie Andersson led the Bears by tying for 21st at 218, following today's three-over 74. A 2004 honorable mention All-American, Andersson was cruising along at one-over through 15 holes but double-bogeyed the par-five 17th.

After strong scores of 73 and 69 in the first two rounds, Cal senior Claire Dury posted an 80 in the final round to finish in a tie for 35th (222). Junior Sophia Sheridan had a rocky opening round (78) but concluded the tournament with scores of 72 and 73 to tie for 40th (223). Sophomore Danielle Nash fired a 77 today for her best round of the tournament.

Cal returns to the links Oct. 4-6 at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash.
