TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State women's tennis team will open the 2004 fall campaign in Berkeley, California at the first Cal Nike Invitational Friday, October 1 through Sunday, October 3 at the Hellman Tennis Center. The Invitational features seven of the nation's premier women's tennis programs, including four Pac-10 teams.

The Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, UC Davis Aggies, Sacramento State Hornets, Texas Longhorns and Washington State Cougars will join the Golden Bears. Cal, Arizona, ASU, Sac State and Texas all finished in the top 40 in the nation in 2004.

Coached by Sheila McInerney, who enters her 21st season, Arizona State will travel seven players to the Invitational, including the preseason No. 20 ranked doubles team of Lauren Colalillo and Kady Pooler.

Last year, the young Sun Devil team made a remarkable run in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Round of 16 for the eighth consecutive year.
