Cougars Face Tough Competition at Cal-Nike Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Zsofia Fodor and sophomore Amy Toth recorded their first day of the Cal-Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif., Friday. Fodor grabbed the lone win between the two in singles competition.
In doubles Fodor/Toth fell to Arizona State's Jessica Leitch/Wendy Pilecka, 8-5. The pair will play in the consolation round tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Monica Wiesner/Tiffany Lee of Cal.
In the first round of singles action Toth knocked off Brooke Borisoff of Cal, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. In the second round Toth faced third-seeded Pilecka of Arizona State and lost 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(5).
'I am proud of the way Amy fought today in her matches,' said Washington State Assistant Coach Kristen Stubbs.
Toth will face the loser of the match between Sabrina Capannolo of Arizona State versus Cal's Wiesner tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m.
Fodor was defeated in the first round by Arizona's Camelia Todorova, 7-5, 6-3. Fodor enjoyed a second round bye and will face Cal's Jessica Shu tomorrow in the consolation bracket at 11 a.m.
