OSU LOSES PAC-10 OPENER TO #12 UCLA, 1-3

Corvallis, Ore. -- - The Oregon State men's soccer team lost it's Pac-10 season opener to a tough opponent in the No. 12 UCLA Bruins. Three pivotal errors from OSU led to goals for UCLA that put the game out of reach. Two of the scores came off of penalty kicks and another off a misplayed pass in the Beaver defense.
OSU Junior midfielder Ryan Johnson scored the lone goal for the Beavers down 2-0 in the 76th minute. Johnson volleyed a headed pass from Robbie Findley past defenders to cut the UCLA lead in half. In the 86th minute UCLA dashed OSU's comeback hopes by converting on the second of two penalty kicks to seal the Bruin victory, 3-1.
Aaron Lopez scored the first goal for the Bruins off a penalty kick that resulted from a handball in the box. Mike Enfield scored a solo goal soon after Lopez in the 38th minute off a stolen pass deep in the OSU defense to make the score 2-0.
UCLA held OSU to just five shots on goal, while UCLA had 13.
The Beavers play again October 8th against the Stanford Cardinal. The game is in Corvallis at Lorenz Field in Valley Stadium.
