Oct. 5, 2004
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford junior midfielder Leah Tapscott has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 28-Oct. 4, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Tapscott, from Madison, Wis., helped the Cardinal to a 1-0-1 weekend as Stanford and Santa Clara battled to a 0-0 tie on Oct. 1 and defeated Saint Mary's, 2-1, Oct. 3. She helped Stanford record its eighth shutout of the season and limited the Broncos to only one shot on goal during the entire 110 minutes of play at Buck Shaw Stadium. In the final non-conference match, Tapscott scored the game-winner against the Gaels to help Stanford to an 8-2-1 record. Tapscott's sliding goal in the 84th minute saved the Cardinal from heading into overtime and secured the 2-1 victory.
The 10th-ranked Cardinal (8-2-1 overall) opens up Pac-10 play at California on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
This is Tapscott's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Stanford's 14th weekly honor all-time.
