Tapscott Honored as Pac-10 Player of the Week
Oct. 5, 2004
Stanford, Calif. - Junior Leah Tapscott (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) was named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 28 - Oct. 4 today, announced Conference Commissioner Tom Hansen. Tapscott helped the Cardinal to a 1-0-1 weekend as Stanford and Santa Clara battled to a 0-0 tie last Thursday and then defeated Saint Mary's, 2-1, on Sunday.
Tapscott helped Stanford record its eighth shutout of the season and limited the Broncos to only one shot on goal during the entire 110 minutes of play at Buck Shaw Stadium. Then, in the final non-conference match of the season, Tapscott scored the game-winner against the Gaels to help Stanford to an 8-2-1 record. Her sliding goal in the 84th minute saved the Cardinal from heading into overtime and secured the 2-1 victory.
Tapscott is third on the team in scoring this season with eight points on three goals and two assists. She also scored the game-winning goal at Missouri on Sept. 10.
The Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the first for Tapscott and the 14th overall for Stanford.
The 16th-ranked Cardinal will open up conference play this weekend as Stanford travels to Berkeley to face off against California at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
