NORTHWEST TEAMS HEAD SOUTH AS PAC-10 PLAY KICKS OFF
WASHINGTON (9-1-0 overall) concludes a stretch of five consecutive weekends away from Seattle, playing games at the Arizona schools to open the Conference slate this week... One of only three unbeaten, un-tied teams in the nation heading into its Oct. 1 game at San Diego, Washington suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of the Toreros... The Huskies and WASHINGTON STATE Cougars (5-3-2) travel to ARIZONA (9-2-0) and ARIZONA STATE (4-6-0) this weekend, while the Oregon schools head for Los Angeles... UCLA (7-3-0) is coming off a 1-0 double-overtime win over Santa Clara, while USC (6-3-1) returns to action following an idle week... OREGON (3-6-1) notched is first back-to-back wins since October 2003 last weekend, downing Wyoming and Gonzaga... CALIFORNIA (7-1-1) hosts Bay Area rival STANFORD (0-0-0, 8-2-1)... Pac-10 teams have posted a .657 winning percentage (64-32-6) against non-conference competition this season.
Four Pac-10 teams are ranked among Soccer America's Top-15 this week: Washington remains at No. 4, UCLA climbs one spot to No. 7, Stanford moves up two places to No. 10 and California, coming off a bye week, remains at No. 13.

PAC-10 WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTES...With conference games starting up this weekend, ARIZONA has already broken the school record for wins in a single season with nine, as the Wildcats went 8-11-1 in 1997... In the 1-0 win over Colorado College, FR GK McCail Smith recorded her seventh shutout of the season, capping a new single-season record for the program. ARIZONA STATE snapped its three-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over San Diego State on Oct. 1...JR MF Brittany Cooper tallied her third goal of the year in the win over the Aztecs. CALIFORNIA will look to keep its five-game winning streak alive as it travels to Santa Clara on Wednesday for its last non-conference game...The Bears will open up Conference play against STANFORD on Sunday. Snapping a five-game losing streak, OREGON won two in a row over Wyoming and Gonzaga, which hasn't happened since Oct. 3 and 5, 2003... JR MF Katie Abrahamson scored her first goal of the season to seal the 1-0 overtime victory over Gonzaga on Oct. 3. OREGON STATE suffered its fifth loss in a row against Portland State on Sept. 29 with a 1-0 defeat...The Beavers bounced back on Oct. 1 as FR F Jodie Taylor scored the game-winning goal against Gonzaga to defeat the Bulldogs, 1-0...Taylor has 10 goals in 11 non-conference games, raising her to 21 points on the year (10 goals, one assist), putting her on pace to break the single-season school points record of 47. In the Cardinal's first overtime game of the year, STANFORD and Santa Clara finished in a scoreless tie in double overtime on Sept. 30... JR MF Leah Tapscott scored the game-winning goal against Saint Mary's on Oct. 3 with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation to a final score, 2-1. UCLA tabbed its first ever win over the No. 15-ranked Santa Clara Broncos in five prior meetings... SR D Kendal Billingsley scored the lone goal in the victory on a penalty kick at the 105:17 mark... FR GK Valerie Henderson registered four saves in the contest... The Bruins suffered their third loss of the season to Utah 2-1 in a non-conference matchup on Oct. 1. USC, which was idle last week, closed out its 2004 non-conference schedule by running its unbeaten streak to four games... The Women of Troy will play host to Oregon and Oregon State on Oct. 8 and Oct. 10, respectivley... USC leads the series with Oregon, 8-0-0 and also leads the series with the Beavers, 9-2-0. After an eight-game winning streak, WASHINGTON was handed its first loss of the season on Oct. 1 against San Diego in a match ending 1-2 in favor of the Toreros... SR F Nikki Gamble netted her fourth goal this year in the loss... The Huskies rebounded and came away with a victory against San Diego State, 1-0... JR F Kim Taylor scored her third goal of the year, which all have been game-winning goals...With the win, the Huskies equaled their school's best non-conference soccer mark at 9-1-0. WASHINGTON STATE rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to tie Loyola Marymount in double overtime, 1-1... JR F Haley Thompson-Miller scored the tying goal for the Cougars at the 72:34 mark... JR GK Katie Hultin made nine saves in the contest to give her a total of 40 on the year... The Cougars suffered their first home loss this season against No. 6 Portland on Oct. 3, ending in a 2-0 defeat.
